Mangroves Play a Vital Role in Maintaining Coastal Ecosystems

The University of Turbat (UoT) organized a field visit on April 26, 2025, to Kalmat Kor (Borani Kuch) near Pasni at Gwadar for the final-year, 7th- and 5th-semester students of the Botany program of the Natural and Basic Sciences Department as part of their courses on Biodiversity and Conservation and Halophytes. Faculty members Mr. Irshad Mayar, Dr. Sumera, Mr. Wajid Ali, and Ms. Zohra accompanied the students.

During the visit, the teachers briefed the students on the vital role of mangrove forests in maintaining aquatic biodiversity and supporting local communities, particularly through fishing and crab farming.
Students observed key mangrove species such as Rhizophora mucronata and Avicennia marina and visited areas reserved for crab farming, enhancing their understanding of ecosystem management and conservation practices.
Finally, the teachers and students expressed their sincere gratitude to Kalmat UC Secretary, Liaquat Baloch, for his cooperation and support in facilitating the visit.
